YourRoyalBekiness’ Lisbon Diaries: Unveiling The Magic (Part 1)
Exploring Lisbon's charms: from historic streets, pastel de nata delights, to golden sunsets at Castelo de Sao Jorge. Lisbon stole our hearts.
Hey lovelies,
Last December, we found ourselves meandering through the serpentine streets of Lisbon, the crown jewel of Portugal. This city, drenched in history and artistic flair, wrapped us in its warm wintery embrace. Dive into our two-part series, and share our journey through the enchanting landscapes and corners of Lisbon.
Our Regal Retreat: Nestled in the heart of Rua da Madalena, right amidst the buzzing tourist quarters, was our sanctuary - the Memoria FLH Lisboa. A harmonious blend of contemporary elegance and traditional Portuguese essence, it felt like stepping into a page of Lisbon’s age-old storybook.
Culinary Beginnings: Our gastronomic adventures commenced at Maria Catita, a haven for those with an affinity for authentic Portuguese flavors. With specialties that sang tales of the land and sea, paired with the finest local wines, it was the perfect start to our culinary journey.
A Trip Down Memory Lane: We stepped into the storied walls of the Casa dos Bicos. Its façade, decked with diamond-shaped stones, narrated tales of the Renaissance era. A beacon from the 16th century, it now houses the heart and soul of Nobel laureate, José Saramago.
Walking Through History: A stroll along Rua da Alfandega felt like a waltz through time. The historic lane, with its grandeur of old edifices adorned with intricate azulejos and ornate balconies, held stories waiting to be told.
Lisbon’s Pride: Standing tall in front of the monumental arch in Rua Augusta, we were touched by the spirit of the city. This arch, more than stone and artistry, is a tribute to Lisbon’s unwavering spirit post the 1755 earthquake.
Taste of Tradition: In the cozy lanes of Rua de Sao Juliao, we encountered the timeless charm of pastel de nata. These creamy custard wonders, paired with a cup of traditional Portuguese coffee, marked our initiation into Lisbon's sweetest secrets.
Life in Rua Augusta: As day meandered into evening, the vibrant tapestry of Rua Augusta came alive. Melodies floated, artistry dazzled, and the promise of festive shopping tempted us (but we resisted, for now).
Elevated Views: The Elevador de Santa Justa stood as a testament to engineering and art. Its neo-gothic silhouette offered us a bird’s-eye view of Lisbon, a city of red roofs and dreams.
Heartbeat of Lisbon: Baixa Chiado unfurled before us, a symphony of sights and sounds. We paused at Praca Luis de Camoes, a living portrait of Lisbon’s everyday rhythm.
Sacred Corners: Our souls found solace in the sacred embrace of churches like Largo de Santo Antonio and Largo de Se, each echoing whispers of faith and centuries past.
Sunset Chronicles: The day's finale was painted in gold at the Jardim do Castelo de Sao Jorge. The horizon, awash with hues of the setting sun, promised more tales for the morrow.
Ending Notes: We capped off our journey at Travessa do Chao de Loureiro, where an authentic Lisbon feast awaited us, every morsel echoing centuries of traditions.
Stay with us, the journey has just begun.
Be well,
YRB
