Iloilo: A Trip Down Memory Lane and a Rediscovery of Charm
Iloilo's charm lies in history & nostalgia. From Casa Mariquit's elegance to Injap Tower's comfort, the city is a blend of past & present.
I'm excited to take you along on an extraordinary journey back to Iloilo, a place brimming with history, nostalgia, and a charm that's uniquely its own.
I first set foot in Iloilo in 1991, a young and energetic athlete on a mission to represent my school's Taekwondo team at the PRISAA. That trip, on the Aboitiz One ship from Manila, was a significant milestone as it marked my first-ever long boat trip in life.
Fast forward to 2018, and the allure of Iloilo called me back. The journey was like a walk down memory lane, filled with familiar sights and new discoveries.
Back to De Paul University
My visit to the old De Paul University was filled with waves of nostalgia. This was where we stayed as athletes all those years ago. I tried to find the Magnolia ice cream parlor that used to be nearby, but time had erased it from the streets. Its absence, though, couldn't diminish the sweet memories of laughter and youthful joy.
The Historical Gems
The highlight of my trip included some of Iloilo's iconic landmarks. The majestic Jaro, Iloilo Cathedral, with its breathtaking architecture and serene ambiance, was a sight to behold.
The Nelly House, another historical treasure, gave me a glimpse of Iloilo's rich cultural past. Each room told a story, each artifact a reminder of a bygone era.
And then there was Casa Mariquit.
Casa Mariquit: A Living Museum
Casa Mariquit isn't just a house; it's a time capsule of history and elegance. Built over 200 years ago, it stands as a testament to Iloilo's grand past. Its wooden floors creak with tales of generations gone by. The antique furniture, beautiful paintings, and artifacts narrate stories of opulence and tradition. The grand staircase, ornate windows, and aged walls are more than architectural features; they are keepers of time and memory.
Injap Tower Hotel: My Comfort Zone
During my stay, Injap Tower Hotel became my home away from home. This hotel, towering over the city's skyline, provided a blend of modern luxury and convenience. With spacious rooms, excellent amenities, and a staff that made me feel welcome, it was the perfect sanctuary after a day of exploration. Its strategic location made it easy to access various parts of the city. If you're interested in experiencing this comfort, you can reach them at +63 977 808 8111.
The Culinary Delights
Iloilo's culinary scene deserves a special mention. From local markets to upscale restaurants, the flavors of Iloilo were a gastronomic delight. Seafood, local pastries, traditional Filipino dishes - each meal was a celebration of taste.
Iloilo is not just a destination; it's an emotion. From the bustling streets to the quiet corners of history, every part of the city tells a story. My trip was a beautiful dance between the past and the present, between youthful memories and mature appreciation. Whether you're a history buff, a culinary enthusiast, or a traveler seeking something extraordinary, Iloilo is a gem that's waiting to be explored.
Till our next adventure, happy travels!
